Dear Colleagues, This ‘ESB 2017’ Special Issue of the Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine comprises selected contributions covering fields such as the design of natural, synthetic and composite biomaterials, hierarchically structured and multifunctional biomaterials, emphasizing their use for various applications such as for the regeneration of bone, dental, cardiovascular tissues and nanomedicine towards their environmental fate and translation activities for efficient clinical treatments. We would like to thank all the authors for their highquality contributions and the reviewers for their thorough reviews.
