Herein, we report a new chemosensor based on 1, 2, 3-triazole containing salicylimine linked organosilocane for the detection of Ce3+ ions in aqueous solution. This receptor was efficiently prepared by employing condensation reaction followed by Cu(I) catalysed alkyne-azide cycloaddition methodology. All the prepared compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13CNMR, CHN analysis and mass spectroscopy. The sensitivity of the synthesized sensor towards Ce3+ ions is preeminent with detection limit as low as 1.44 μM. Density functionalised theory based quantum mechanical calculation suggest the molecular geometry of the organosilocane (host) to make the stable complex with cerium (guest). Moreover, chemosensing ability in aqueous solution facilitates the receptor to be used for detection in real samples.
