We demonstrate an efficient diode-pumped Tm:Lu 2 O 3 ceramic laser with resonant pumping scheme. A laser diode at 1.7 μm is employed as the pump source. With an absorbed pump power of 8.2 W, the diode-pumped Tm:Lu 2 O 3 ceramic laser produces an output power of 3.3 W at 2.06 μm corresponding to a slope efficiency of 64.9% with respect to the absorbed pump power. Furthermore, the M 2 factor of Tm:Lu 2 O 3 ceramic laser at the maximum output level is estimated to be about 1.02.
