UV–Vis, FT IR spectroscopy and densitometry were used to study solutions of isoniazid (INH) in diethylsulfoxide (DESO). The apparent molar volumes of INH were calculated from density data at 298.15, 310.15 and 328.15 K. The limiting apparent molar volume was found by extrapolation to infinite dilution using the Redlich–Mayer equation. From detailed analysis of FT IR spectra of INH in DESO, complex formation through hydrogen bonds between INH and sulfoxide molecules was revealed. Also UV–Vis data confirm the formation of hydrogen bonds between the NH 2 group of INH and the SO group of the sulfoxide. The obtained data were compared with those of dimethylsulfoxide solutions.
