U recovery test was performed on a Zn-U alloy to confirm the feasibility of Zn as an alternative cathode material. An evaporation test of pure Zn first confirmed that Zn started to evaporate at above 450 °C. Next, a U recovery test was performed using liquid Zn in which U was electrochemically deposited. U was successfully recovered via distillation at 800 °C, leaving a disk-shaped product. The product was mostly U, indicating that the Zn was completely removed. These results confirm the feasibility of Zn as a cathode material, which offers the advantage of a lower operation temperature compared to Cd distillation.
