Mixtures of a low density-polyethylene (LDPE) with a nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), which is used as a coupling agent in polymer composites, were obtained by extrusion. A sol-gel analysis, together with the exclusion chromatography and IR spectroscopy, was employed to study the change in the sol content and molar mass distribution during the gamma irradiation of an NBR/LDPE mixture. A correlation is found between changes in the deformation and strength characteristics of LDPE/NBR mixtures after irradiation and the sol content.
