The effect of nitrogen alloying (0.017 and 0.06 wt.%) on the short-term and long-term mechanical properties and on the fracture behavior of 12% chromium martensitic-ferritic steel is studied. It is shown that alloying with 0.06 wt.% nitrogen raises substantially the mechanical characteristics of the steel.
