We study the plasmon resonances, which occur in the two-dimensional problem of diffraction of a plane wave on a glass cylinder encased in a silver layer, under the assumption that the media interface boundaries are confocal ellipses. Numerical methods are used to calculate the spectra of scattering and absorption in the optical wavelength range. The obtained analytical expressions allow determining the resonance parameters of the structure within the quasistatic approximation.
