The present work focused on the assembly of 2-((2-(4-chlorophenylamino)phenylimino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol as primary ligand (VBL) and bidentate nitrogen donors, namely 2,2′-bipyridyl (L1), 1,10-phenanthroline (L2), and ethylenediamine (L3) as secondary ligands with Cu(II)… Click to show full abstract

The present work focused on the assembly of 2-((2-(4-chlorophenylamino)phenylimino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol as primary ligand (VBL) and bidentate nitrogen donors, namely 2,2′-bipyridyl (L1), 1,10-phenanthroline (L2), and ethylenediamine (L3) as secondary ligands with Cu(II) ion. The synthesized compounds were well characterized by different spectral techniques. From the spectral data, square pyramidal geometry is obtained around Cu(II) center. Compounds so prepared have been subjected to interactions with calf thymus DNA and supercoiled pBR322 plasmid DNA. These studies revealed that these complexes have good interacting property. Anticancer activity to the HeLa (human cervical cancer) and MCF-7 (breast cancer) cell lines showed substantial cytotoxic effect. The compounds were screened for in vitro antibacterial activity, and the results showed that the complexes exhibited good activity against various pathogens.
