Chelate compounds of copper(ii) demonstrated high catalytic activity in tert-butyl hydroperoxide decomposition in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The feature of this catalytic system is that it ensures high reaction rate without visible sign of catalyst deactivation at high reactant conversion and at room temperature. The mechanism of catalytic activity of the three component system was investigated using electron and ESR spectroscopies. Based on the changes in the absorption spectra of CuII compound in the presence of CTAB, generation of [CuII•CTAB] complex, effi cient catalytic particle in hydroperoxide decomposition, was discovered.
