A new method for recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) wastes, which is based on their processing under the action of a nitrating atmosphere and a subsequent utilization of the conversion products, is considered. It is shown that the exposure of PET samples to an NO x —H 2 O (steam)—air atmosphere obtained by vaporization of 12 A/TTNO 3 at 403-463 K for 5-24 h, dissolution of the conversion products in 0.5 M NaOH, and their subsequent ozonation makes it possible to effectively utilize waste PET bottles regardless of the color of the plastic.
