The special features of the second harmonic generation by a spherical nanoparticle with a plasmon shell are theoretically studied. Within the framework of quasistatic perturbation theory, expressions are derived for the induced dipole and quadrupole moments of the particle oscillating with a doubled frequency. The second harmonic radiation power has been calculated showing the resonance nature of the dependence of the power on the exciting wavelength. Moreover, the positions of resonances of the radiation power depend significantly on the dielectric permittivity of the particle core and its size.
