It was shown that the epoxidation of 1-octene by tert-butyl hydroperoxide in the presence of Mo2B is accompanied by the formation of an amorphous oxygen-containing phase on its surface. It was established that this is the phase that catalyzes the reaction and determines its speed and selectivity.
