In this study, the microstructure and corrosion resistance of the as-extruded and as-extruded with subsequent heat treatment Mg-3Al-1Zn-15Li (LAZ1531) alloys have been investigated. The alloys’ microstructures consisted of α (Mg), β (Li), Θ-MgLi 2 Al and Mg 17 Al 12 . As a result of annealing, the β (Li) to α (Mg) transformation occurred, and the recrystallization supported the reformation of the Mg 17 Al 12 . The electrochemical tests showed that the increased amount of α (Mg) and higher amount of Mg 17 Al 12 in the heat-treated alloy favored reactions and determined it as having better corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt.% NaCl.
