Phase relationships in the Yb-Co-Fe ternary system at 803 K were investigated by x-ray diffraction techniques, with powder metallurgy used for preparation of the samples. It was confirmed that six binary compounds, Fe23Yb6, Fe17Yb2, Co2Yb, Co3Yb, Co17Yb2, and CoFe, exist in this system at 803 K; Co17Yb2 and Fe17Yb2 form a continuous solid solution (Co17−XFeX) Yb2 (0 ≤ X ≤ 17). The maximum solid solubility of Co in Fe and Fe in Co were about 26 at.% Co and 15 at.% Fe, respectively. No ternary compounds were detected. The isothermal section of the phase diagram of the ternary system Yb-Co-Fe at 803 K was found to consist of eight single-phase regions, twelve two-phase regions, and five three-phase regions.
