Abstractγ-TiAl alloys have attractive properties such as low density, high creep resistance, high modulus, good oxidation and burn resistance. The main concern for the fabrication and use of TiAl alloys is the low deformability at room and high temperatures. Alloying and processing have been developed during the last three decades to improve the high-temperature deformability. Fabrication methods have been developed, including powder metallurgy and ingot metallurgy, to provide sheet materials for aerospace applications. This paper reviews the current status of TiAl sheet materials in terms of fabrication methods, microstructural control and mechanical properties. Future challenges and opportunities are also discussed.
