AbstractTo further investigate the effects of isothermal heating temperature on the interfacial reactions between the Fe-Al-Ca alloy and the Al2O3-CaO-FeO oxide, two kinds of diffusion couples with different FeO contents in the oxide were prepared and then subjected to isothermal heating at different temperatures in the range of 873 K to 1473 K for 10 h, 30 h, and 50 h. With increasing temperature of isothermal heating, in the case of 0.5 mass% FeO, fine Al2O3 particles first precipitated in the alloy near the alloy–oxide interface, and then CaO·Al2O3 branch inclusions appeared and increased in number, while for the case of 3.0 mass% FeO, Al2O3 particles were the only reaction product in the particle precipitation zone (PPZ). An improved kinetics model for predicting PPZ width was proposed and verified by experimental results.
