A new species, Impatiens raktakesara, belonging to section Scorpioidae is described and illustrated from Idukki district of Kerala in the southern Western Ghats. It is morphologically similar to Impatiens goughii, but can easily be distinguished in having uniseriate moniliform trichomes on leaf upper surface, unlobed lower petals and 1–3(-5)-seeded capsules. Impatiens raktakesara is assessed here as Endangered based on the categories and criteria of the IUCN Red List.
