In this study, the calculation process of the progressive caving of the hanging wall is introduced in detail. The progressive caving of the hanging wall in the subsidence area is studied by using theoretical calculation and numerical simulation. Excel software is used to compile the calculation program of the progressive caving of the hanging wall. The results show that the mining depth of the underground orebody has a significant effect on the crack depth, angle of the failure surface, and caving angle of the rock mass. There is a positive correlation between the mining depth and the angle of the failure surface. There is a negative correlation between the mining depth and the crack depth and caving angle. The crack depth is 39.00~39.23 m. The angle of the failure surface is 52.83~54.08°. The caving angle is 57.35~67.78°. The maximum cracking range of the hanging wall is 448.5 m. The maximum cracking range in the strike direction is 92.4 m. The predicted range of numerical simulation is close to that of theoretical calculation. The reliability of the theoretical calculation is verified. The research results can provide a reference for mine safety production.
