The complete mitochondrial genome of the endangered fish Tor malabaricus, (Malabar mahseer) was sequenced for the first time. The mitochondrial genome size was determined to be 16580 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and a control region (D-loop). The overall base composition was A: 31.88%, T: 24.87%, G: 15.68% and C: 27.58%. The phylogenetic analysis of 13 protein-coding genes of available mitogenome of mahseer species showed that the T. malabaricus had closer relationship to the black mahseer T. khudree. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of T. malabaricus would contribute to the better understanding of molecular systematics, selection, conservation, species identification and evolution of this species.
