In this paper, the facts that every equivalence relation may be considered as a special case of soft equivalence relations and there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the family of all knowledge bases and the family of all soft equivalence relations are proved. Parameter reductions of soft equivalence relations are investigated from the angle of rough sets and their algorithms are given. Parameters in a soft equivalence relation are divided into four categories (i.e., necessary parameters, relatively necessary parameters, absolutely dispensable parameters, dispensable parameters) according to the importance.
