Based on the assumptions that the tower and counter jib of the tower cranes are rigid bodies in the case of trolley motion, the jib of the tower cranes is taken as a cantilever beam. The tower crane is simplified as a payload–trolley–jib system. Furthermore, the lattice jib is equal to a solid beam and the trolley is reduced to a moving mass. The dynamic equations for the system are derived on the basis of Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and Lagrange’s equations. Finally, the influence of dynamic parameters such as the velocity and acceleration of the trolley motion, payload mass, cable length on jib vibration, and payload swing is studied by simulations and experiments.
