As this issue of MMA goes to print, the final submittal date has passed for the MS&T 2018 conference. As the IMS Programming Committee chair for MS&T 2018, I am very proud of the work the session chairs have done to gather outstanding technical presentations for the IMS symposium. The IMS Programming Committee are currently organizing the submitted technical presentations. For MS&T 2018, the Henry Clifton Sorby Award recipient is Professor Dr. Jan Ludwik Cwajna. He is a member of the faculty of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy from the Silesian University of Technology. The topic of his presentation is ‘‘Summary of Analysis of Human and Methodological Factors Affecting the Accuracy and Precision of Quantitative Descriptions of the Microstructure of Materials.’’ The IMS symposium at MS&T 2018 will be an impressive display of the work currently underway in our community. I am looking forward to the symposium and hope that you will join me. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the latest developments in our field and to reconnect with your colleagues! Lastly, this is also the time for IMS members to consider the topic and description for the IMS symposium for MS&T 2019. The IMS programming committee is looking for ideas. Please contact me at [email protected] with any ideas for the symposium or session topics. Many thanks.
