In 2020, 186 empirical report manuscripts were submitted to Academic Psychiatry and 26 were accepted for publication. Although there are many factors in deciding to accept a manuscript, including fit with journal scope and importance of findings, problems with design and analysis negatively impact the review. In a discussion among the editors, a few methodological and statistical issues were highlighted that occur frequently. This commentary will discuss these issues with the goal of alerting potential authors to common problems and potential solutions. All examples are hypothetical and do not reflect any specific manuscript.
