In 2020, 186 empirical report manuscripts were submitted to Academic Psychiatry and 26 were accepted for publication. Although there are many factors in deciding to accept a manuscript, including fit with journal scope and importance of findings, problems with design and analysis negatively impact the review. In a discussion among the editors, a few methodological and statistical issues were highlighted that occur frequently. This commentary will discuss these issues with the goal of alerting potential authors to common problems and potential solutions.
