In this paper, the problem of adaptive fuzzy proportional-integral output feedback tracking control is investigated for a class of uncertain switched nonlinear systems with dead-zone output, unknown control coefficients, and unmodeled dynamics. The unknown parameter of the dead-zone output is processed using adaptive estimation technique. A set of switched filters are developed to estimate unmeasurable states. Then, by combining fuzzy logic systems and backstepping technique, an adaptive output feedback PI tracking controller is developed, which has intuitive structure and a strong physical meaning. Finally, the boundedness of the tracking error and all signals in the closed-loop system is demonstrated via a multiple Lyapunov function. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is confirmed through two examples.
