emphigus defines a group of IgG-mediated autoimmune onditions targeting the squamous epithelium of skin and ral mucosa manifesting as intraepidermal blisters and eroions, which can be severely debilitating. The autoimmune tiology and chronicity of pemphigus disorders have spurred nvestigation into its association with other autoimmune onditions. Some studies note co-existence of pemphigus nd systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Whether a true ssociation exists or not is unknown. The authors present systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the assocition between pemphigus and SLE. Following PRISMA guidelines, searches were performed sing PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled rials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Ovid MEDINE, ACP Journal Club, and Database of Abstracts of eview of Effectiveness from their inception dates to August 019. Search terms used were the following: “pemphigus oliaceus,” “pemphigus vulgaris,” or “pemphigus” in conunction with “systemic lupus erythematosus,” “lupus,” r “SLE.” Studies included compared SLE cases in pemhigus patients vs. controls. Pemphigus cases included its ubtypes (pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus vegetans, pemphius foliaceus, pemphigus erythematosus, and drug-induced emphigus). Studies were excluded if clinical diagnosis was ot determined by either direct or indirect immunofluoescence staining or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. ase reports, reviews, and studies without controls were lso excluded. The odds ratio (OR) was calculated using a andom effects model considering the baseline study hetrogeneity as assessed with the I statistic. As a supplemental
