T HE PRODUCTION OF SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS (SRS) HAS increased exponentially in recent years. With this rise in popularity, researchers issued warnings regarding the quality and reliability of a large fraction of such reviews, leading to indiscriminate accusations of poor conduct, irrelevance, and even fabrication. Herein we summarize common concerns about the conduct of SRs and provide a guidance update for their submission to the American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO). Before we provide updated guidance related to the preparation of an SR, it is important to address 2 common concerns about the conduct of SRs that underscore the importance of updating this guidance.
