S176 American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology Supplement to JANUARY 244 Analysis of 15-years of maternal mortality data from the state of Maryland Benjamin K. Kogutt, Katelyn A. Uribe, Clark T. Johnson Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD OBJECTIVE: National attention has recently focused on United States maternal mortality rates and their contributing factors. The objective of this study was to evaluate the temporal trends among all pregnancy associated deaths in Maryland, which has had an ongoing Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) since 2002, to better explain the current state of maternal mortality within the state and potentially the nation. STUDY DESIGN: This is a retrospective cohort study analyzing all pregnancy associated deaths in the state of Maryland from 20002015, as reviewed by the Maryland Department of Health MMRC. Findings, as reported in the MMRC annual reports, were analyzed for cause of death. Pregnancy-associated deaths were then stratified by etiology based on social factors or factors related to pregnancy: social factors included substance abuse, injury, and suicide; pregnancy related factors included hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), thrombotic pulmonary embolism (PE), and amniotic fluid embolism (AFE).
