Abstract Capnocytophaga spp. are not often considered as a cause of perinatal infection. However, Capnocytophaga spp. are a commensal of the human oral cavity and can be opportunistic pathogens. The present case illustrates the ability of a species from the human oral cavity, C. sputigena, to cause an ascending infection of the genital tract in a healthy pregnant woman.
