Abstract Under the framework of elastodynamics and Biot's poroelastodynamics, the analytical layer-elements for every single layer of elastic and saturated media are derived by virtue of Laplace-Hankel integral transform. Taking boundary and continuity conditions into consideration, total stiffness matrices are obtained by assembling every single analytical layer-element together. Solutions in time domain are presented by using an inverse Laplace-Hankel integral transform. Numerical examples are given to verify the accuracy of proposed method, and to demonstrate the influences of the thickness of elastic soil, interfacial permeability between saturated soils and the elastic superstratum and the stratification of saturated media on the dynamic response of saturated multilayered soils with elastic superstratum subjected to vertical impulsive loadings.
