HIGHLIGHTSCaregivers of persons with dementia are prone to stress and psychological problems.The experience of dementia caregivers involves risk factors, protective factors, and a combination of the two.Most of the themes experienced by caregivers focused on risk factors, which is alarming.The study draws our attention to risk and protective factors that may be important foci for future interventions.Primary prevention is essential to preserve the well‐being of caregivers.
