Abstract A one-pot, multi-component coupling reaction of aromatic aldehydes, 2-naphthol and semicarbazide (hydrochloride)/thiosemicarbazide using LaCl 3 /ClCH 2 COOH as an efficient catalyst system under solvent free condition at elevated temperature was investigated. High yields, short reaction time, easy work-up, green environment which requires no toxic organic solvents and reusability of the catalyst are the advantages of this procedure.
