Abstract Strong disturbance and long life requirement of the space station make momentum management (MM) an important consideration in its design. To deal with the MM problem, this paper proposes a disturbance rejection control architecture based on the linear extended state observer (LESO) and the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) method. LESO is designed to estimate the variant disturbance of the space station. A special compensation strategy on each axis is proposed based on the working mechanism of the disturbance. The designed LESO and the closed-loop system are proved to be stable. Simulation results show that, by rejecting the strong and abrupt disturbance with higher-order cyclic terms, the proposed control scheme can achieve desirable control accuracy.
