Abstract New insights on KOH-activated carbons prepared from a largely produced waste in Brazil, acai berry seeds, are reported. Influence of time (120–360 min), temperature (180–540 °C), and dosage of activator (5–10 mols L−1) were analyzed by linear multiple regression and One-Way ANOVA. Seeds and derived AC were characterized by BET, XRD, TGA-DTG, FT-IR, SEM, pH and pHpzc. Possible reaction mechanisms and applicability of the AC are also presented.
