Abstract Porous g-C 3 N 4 was prepared through thermal polycondensation of supramolecular aggregates, which were formed from melamine and HNO 3 , H 2 SO 4 , HCl or HI by induced hydrogen bond. Various acids acted as templates to cause the formation of porous structures on the g-C 3 N 4 during the condensation process of melamine. And the prepared pg-C 3 N 4 exhibited notably photocatalytic performance for degrading Rhodamine B and phenol compared with bulk g-C 3 N 4 due to its high surface area and changed band potentials. Obviously, this work supplied a facile method to synthesize porous g-C 3 N 4 material, which was widely used in environmental abatement and energy related fields.
