Abstract Poly(vinyl-diisopropyl-phtalate ester-co-styrene-co-divinylbenzene) was synthesized by the bulk copolymerization process. Subsequently, isopropyl protecting groups were hydrolyzed followed by the ring closure. The consecutive reaction with hydroxylammonium chloride formed N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) species. The expected chemical transformations were confirmed by elemental analysis, FT-IR, NMR and XPS. The prepared NHPI-containing material combined with Co(II) ions showed very high catalytic activity in the aerobic oxidation of alkylaromatics. After 6 h at 80 °C in the solvent-free system 22.5% of p-methoxytoluene was converted mainly into p-anisaldehyde, p-anisyl alcohol and p-anisic acid.
