Abstract Triazole complexes of ruthenium immobilized on mesoporous silica materials were applied in the oxidation of n-octane. The reactions proceeded at a low catalyst loading of 0.01 mol% metal during which a maximum product yield of 13.8% was achieved. It was found that in all cases that the immobilized catalysts showed better activity when compared to the conventional homogeneous catalyst systems. More importantly, we were able to recycle the heterogenized catalysts while being employed in the oxidation of n-octane. During the recycling, only a slight drop in activity was observed.
