Abstract Herein, the multimodal noncontact temperature readout approach based on GdP5O14 nanocrystals co-doped with Cr3+ and Nd3+ ions is reported. Each of the temperature readout Modes based on the: Stokes emission of Cr3+ and Nd3+(Mode I), Stokes and anti-Stokes emission (Mode II) and anti-Stokes emission (Mode III) of Nd3+ enables temperature determination in different spectral range providing the possibility to cross-checking readout verification. Independent optical addressing and the different performance to temperature sensing of the particular temperature readout mode enable development of versatile luminescent thermometer with enhanced temperature readout accuracy. The best performance for noncontact temperature sensing with the highest achieved relative sensitivity, wide usable temperature range and the δT ~ 0.15 °C reveals the Mode II based luminescent thermometer.
