Abstract Reddish orange-emitting 0.8Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 -0.2SrTiO 3 - x Sm ferroelectric ceramics were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction route, and their electrical and optical temperature stability were also investigated. Temperature-dependent measurement of polarization revealed that the addition of Sm 3+ ion significantly improved their thermal stability of ferroelectric properties. Temperature-dependent photoluminescent spectra showed that the 0.8Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 -0.2SrTiO 3 - x Sm multifunctional ceramics exhibit well thermal stability of photoluminescence in the temperature range from 20 °C to 160 °C, which is superior to the thermal stability of the KBaPO 4 :Sm phosphors.
