Abstract In this paper we propose a new theoretical model for critical opalescence describing the observed peculiarities of small angle scattering of laser radiation by critical CO2 well enough. Comparing the theoretical and experimental angular distributions of scattered light intensity we get reliable information about correlation length ~10−5 m and relative density variance ~2·10−4 for CO2 large-scale critical fluctuations.
