Since the mid-1960s, a machine that can synthesize any molecule has been a hotly pursued but unsolved challenge. In this issue of Chem , a multinational team led by Grzybowski, Mrksich, and Trice reports the first experimental execution of chemical syntheses planned by the software Chematica.
