He received his BSc in chemistry from Midnapore College, his MSc from the Indian Institute of Technology, and his PhD from the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory under the guidance of Prof. Akkattu T. Biju. His graduate work entailed transition-metal-free carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bond-forming reactions using N-heterocyclic carbene catalysis and aryne chemistry. His postdoctoral research has centered on the development of new reagents for stereo- and regioselective functionalizations of alkenes through metal catalysis or free-radical reactions.
