Banal is currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he works on engineering excitonic materials and molecular data storage using DNA. He obtained his PhD in 2016 at the University of Melbourne, where he studied the photophysics of molecular aggregates in luminescent solar concentrators. His research interests lie at the intersection of materials chemistry, optical spectroscopy, and engineering of optoelectronic devices.
