PURPOSE: Numerous benefits have been proposed for speaking valve use in individuals with tracheostomy tubes, including communication and secretion management. Despite this, they remain underutilised with evidence based criteria to assess candidacy lacking in the pediatric population. The aim of our study was to review the prior use of speaking valves and evaluate eligibility for initiation of use in children with tracheostomies.
