Abstract The purpose of this article is to understand the irreversibility analysis during charging of nanoparticle enhanced phase change material (NEPCM) (CuO - n-octadecane paraffin) through an enclosure with radial fins. Three arrangements for fins are involved. Finite volume method (FVM) has been approved to model this process. Both frictional and thermal components of entropy generation are presented. Outputs indicated that the thermal component decreases with augment of time. Maximum melt fraction was reported for third case.
