Abstract A novel antioxidant and antibacterial material were prepared by incorporating Baicalein-Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin inclusion complex (Ba-IC) into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers (PVA-Ba-IC-NF) via electrospinning method. Herein, PVA was used as the polymeric matrix for the nanofibers. The PVA-Ba-IC-NF were characterized in terms of scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Meanwhile, with the treatment of PVA-Ba-IC-NF have enhanced water-solubility of baicalein along with effective antioxidant activity, and satisfactory inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. The PVA-Ba-IC-NF greatly improves the utilization of baicalein and provides the potential application of baicalein for food, medicine and other fields.
