Abstract This paper proposes a modified strain wedge model for the analysis of laterally loaded piles in sloping ground. The proposed model allows the assessment of the soil resistance along the pile and describes the stress-strain behaviour of the soils using a nonlinear stress-strain model. The modified strain wedge is divided into two parts: an upper soil wedge and a modified lower strain wedge. Two calculation methods for the two parts are discussed, and an in-situ test is used to verify the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

Keywords: wedge model; strain wedge; modified strain; wedge
