Abstract Radar absorbing structures (RASs) contain a glass or aramid fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP or AFRP) with carbon nanomaterials mixed with matrix. The main problem encountered by composite RASs is a non-uniformity in the performance due to agglomerated nanomaterials. In this study, RASs were developed that contained an AFRP with MWCNT-anchored para-aramid fibers to improve the performance uniformity. The topography of the MWCNT dispersion on the composites was analyzed by SEM. The reflection loss (RL) in the X-band range, dielectric properties, electrical properties and performance uniformity of the RAS composites were investigated. Finally, the optimum MWCNT concentration and incorporation method are presented.
