Abstract Digital Volume Correlation is an appealing technique for establishing a novel comparison (differentiating) tool based on full field measurements of structured materials such as 3D woven composites. This approach provides a quantifiable description of the weaving distortions on woven composites. It also offers applications ranging from the quantification of the influence of different weaving conditions, up to nondestructive testing of composite parts. The method is validated on real 3D woven composite samples revealing both “metric differences” (deformations of a textile with respect to reference one) and “topological differences” (such as the occurrence of missing yarns).
