Abstract Combining experimental and simulation analyses, we developed a method to obtain the interfacial concrete strain. The relative slip in any position was derived along the anchorage segment between steel bars and the concrete. We used this method to analyze the bond performance of concrete-embedded smooth bars. The results indicated that in the anchorage zone, not all of the interfacial concrete was in compression; the non-uniform influence coefficient of concrete cover was closely related to the loading level and anchorage length, having a wide distribution; when the loading level was high, a minimum slip was observed but not at the free end.
